Ameliorative Effects of Vanadyl Sulfate on Some Biochemical Parameters of Experimental Diabetic Rat Kidneys

Diabetes mellitus (DM), closely related to diabetic nephropathy, is one of the major public health problems worldwide. Today, with increasing understanding underlying pathophysiology DM, new oral anti-diabetic treatment strategies are being developed. Vanadium a transition element that widely distributed in nature, and its administration has been reported improve DM humans variety animal models. The purpose research explore effect vanadyl sulfate (VS) on different enzyme activities associated kidney injury streptozotocin- (STZ) induced rats. Male rats were assigned into groups as follows: untreated control, control animals given VS (100 mg/kg), (a single dose intraperitoneal STZ, 65 + (same dose) group. was administered orally for 60 days after induction diabetes. On 60th day experiment, samples taken analysis. According data obtained from biochemical analysis, transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, carbonic anhydrase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase decreased, whereas superoxide dismutase activity elevated tissue treated hyperglycemic animals. results suggested improved renal injury, probably by insulin-mimic antioxidant behavior through decreased oxidative stress increased capacity. Therefore, might be used potential compound an important blood glucose levels state.
